About F.T.T.U.

F.T.T.U. - From Them to US was inspired by my passions for educational advocacy, female agency, and the continent of Africa. When given the opportunity to create my very own, original project, I knew immediately that I wanted to combine the three. My main goals for this project are to create a more full understanding for myself and others of education for women in Accra - and briefly, Lagos -, to observe these structures rather than trying to change them, as is often done, and to use my knowledge to become a better student and activist. Through this blog, my secondary goal is to serve as the carrier bird of firsthand accounts from female students, educators, and community members in Accra, allowing them to present a fresh picture of their experiences, good or bad, in their own way. My hope is that US Westerners, both you and I - particularly in the U.S. - are able to develop new and positive perspectives in regards to this part of the world, especially as it pertains to education.

Beyond this, F.T.T.U. is more than just a project blog. It is my way of giving you, my reader, a front-row seat on my entire experience in Lagos and Accra, beyond just the school and community visits. While the project itself is the most important, and will be shared through my "From: The Project" section, I will also be sharing my more personal thoughts through the "From Me to You" section, which will essentially be conversions of the journal I'm keeping throughout these few weeks. I hope that sharing my journey along with the stories of the incredible women I'll encounter will impact you in some way.

I'm excited to have you on this journey with me as knowledge is imparted from them to US and thoughts are shared from me to you.
